JULY 1999

U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, WRD New York District, Troy, NY WATER RESOURCES REVIEW AND CURRENT CONDITIONS STATEMENT FOR JULY 1999 Prepared August 2, 1999 Troy Subdistrict--Summary Report Provisional mean flows in eastern New York ranged from deficient to excessive at all sites monitored and included in this report. The percent of median flow increased from June to July at all these sites except at Wallkill River at Gardiner (deficient for fourth consecutive month) and Wappinger Creek near Wappingers Falls (deficient for third consecutive month). Streamflow conditions were also in the deficient range at Hudson River at Hadley for the third consecutive month. On July 9 the state Disaster Preparedness Commission expanded its drought warning to include 18 counties located within the Susquehanna, upper Hudson, and Mohawk River basins and expanded its drought watch advisory to cover the rest of New York State. Four more sites have been added to our end-of-month report for the area of the state covered by our Troy office. Two are in the Delaware River basin, 1 is in the Hudson River basin, and 1 in the Black River basin. Ithaca Subdistrict--Summary Report Provisional mean flows at all monitored sites included in this report for western New York were in the deficient range except at Susquehanna River at Conklin. Mean flow at this site was in the normal range. One more site (in the Susquehanna River basin) has been added to this report for the area covered by our Ithaca office. Coram Subdistrict--Summary Report Provisional mean flow at Massapequa Creek at Massapequa was in the deficient range for the fifth consecutive month. A new provisional period-of-record (62 years) minimum daily discharge for July was recorded. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
